The only job you are fully qualified for..

Hi mate, good to have you on my medium. Apparently, this is my first post on medium even though I felt like I had created a lot of posts before now (in my mind). I seem to enjoy talking to people more than I type really, but from today, I will be sharing more using this platform. My first post is about jobs and qualifications. Link to a post that triggered this was shared on a platform I belong to, it is an article by Harvard Business Review — find the link below. This article triggered some interesting conversations on how a lot of people tends to want to be fully qualify for a role before applying, simply because they were unable to tick 100% of the boxes on the JD.

And how people often sabotage themselves with imposter syndrome. While reflecting on this article, I remembered something interesting Eno Eka said at some point, “the only job you are fully qualified for, is the one you are in”. We have to daily take every new job as a new challenge and be willing to ask questions, learn fast and grow daily with the job. You have so much more to fit into that role already, you have the talent to function effectively. Stop doubting yourself and simply go for it. Learn as much as you can, but don’t stay away from opportunities just because of self-doubt. Always accept and see all job interviews as opportunities to network, showcase and sell yourself and your skillsets.

Working over the years more as an entrepreneur, gave me the opportunity of working with very amazing and talented people who learnt a lot ‘on the job’. And in no time, they are doing amazingly well just because they stepped up to the opportunity. Get adequate skills when you have to, go for the job and be willing to learn quickly and you will see yourself make great progress in your career.

After reading this post and the linked article, kindly share what stood out to you and how you were able to relate with it in your career journey . Do not forget to share with someone who might really need this at this time in their career.

Cheers.
